Biography July 2010
Republic of Loose were back and forth to the US in 2009 selling out venues and spreading the Loose word Stateside. They returned last summer to open up for U2 in Croke Park on their 360 tour. The latter half of 2009 was spent writing new material for their fourth album. In December 2009 Republic of Loose were nominated by cult author Irvine Welsh for Q Magazines ‘Albums of the Century’ poll.
The band locked themselves in their rehearsal space for the first few months of 2010 breaking only to provide a track for the new album by US Hip-Hop artist Styles P. While not well known in Ireland, Styles P has sold millions of records and is regarded as one of the greatest rappers in hip-hop culture. He has collaborated with Biggie Smalls, P Diddy, Akon and Mariah Carey amongst others and this new collaboration with Republic of Loose reaffirms their mutual admiration. Fans of the Loose Stateside continue to multiply so much so that hip-hop acts are shouting out to Republic of Loose in their songs as evidenced in this track by New York City’s The Metermaids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxS61hxbJ_0 (2mins 20secs).
In May 2010 Republic of Loose flew to Baltimore in the US to begin work on their forthcoming album. Recorded in Wrightway Studios with Steve Wright who had just finished working on the new UNKLE album, the fourth Republic of Loose album is scheduled for an early October release with the lead single pencilled in for September 17th. The album marks a new direction for the Loose with Mik Pyro describing the work as more up tempo and groove orientated.
Not content to sit on their laurels, the band flew to Canada after their recording sessions in Baltimore and played a series of shows in Toronto, returning home to rock Oxegen where they ripped it up with a mix of hits and new material to glowing reviews.
